Death & What Follows
Cases Suggestive of Reincarnation (Stevenson’s Research)
A decades-long research program, based mainly at the University of Virginia, documenting young children who spontaneously report detailed memories of a specific deceased person’s life — in the strongest cases, memories investigators found to match a real, verifiable individual the child had no ordinary way of knowing about.
Proponents
Ian Stevenson, Jim B. Tucker
Evidence For
Stevenson personally investigated and documented several thousand cases across many cultures using a consistent methodology, some involving specific, checkable details — names, locations, causes of death — verified as matching a real deceased person after the child's statements were recorded.
Evidence Against
Critics point out the cases are rarely verified before the family makes contact with the deceased person's family, leaving room for unconscious cueing or information leakage, and the research has not been replicated by mainstream psychology or accepted as established science outside a small specialist community.
